PURPOSE OF JOB
The role of the addiction support worker is to provide our services
users with access to a range of supports including: brief
interventions, structured one to one sessions, case management set in
a professional, confidential and safe environment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage a case load of clients by providing One to one sessions set
in a confidential, safe environment. Sessions could involve any of the
flowing interventions:
* Initial and comprehensive assessments
* Relapse prevention
* Crisis intervention
* Harm Reduction
* Motivational Interviewing
* Developing individual care plan for each client in conjunction
with the client
* Referrals to Treatment centres, counselling, education/employment
* Referrals to mental Health Services
* Progression routes
* Aftercare
* Gender specific issues
* Advocacy
* Community reintegration
2. To work with service users within the context of the aims and
objectives of the project through the provision of:
* One to one key working sessions
* Group work
* Co facilitating an open access drop in
KEY AREAS OF WORK
_KEY AREAS OF WORK WILL INCLUDE:_
* Maintaining and sustaining the established projects and services of
the centre
* Developing new projects in conjunction with the project manager
and Management Committee
* Establishing and maintaining links with statutory, voluntary and
community bodies
* Identifying areas for networking and coordination
* Compiling reports, proposals and briefing documents
* Developing relevant actions
* Organising information sessions and making presentations about the
work of the project
* Disseminating information on the project
* Keep appropriate records and undertake administration duties as
requested
_MAIN DUTIES:_
* To work as a team member in order to fulfil the policies, aims and
objectives of the Clondalkin Tus Nua
* To develop support services for service user?s
* To build effective links with other professional organisations in
the area
* To work closely with community groups in the Southwest Clondalkin
area
* To fully engage in the work of the team and to take up training
opportunities offered where appropriate
* Any other duties appropriate to the position and agreed with the
project manager
PERSON SPECIFICATION
_ESSENTIAL CRITERIA_
* Minimum of a level 7 diploma in Community Drugs Work/ Addiction
Studies
* Minimum of 2 years working fulltime in addiction/community
addiction supports with one to one interventions being central to the
role
* Experience in key working, care planning and case management
across a continuum of care from active drug use to drug free
interventions
* Have a thorough knowledge of drug related issues and their effect
and influence on individuals, families and communities.
* Knowledge and understanding of theory in evidence based practice
in the field of treatment & rehabilitation.
* Knowledge and understanding of National Drugs policy including
Reducing Harm, Supporting Recovery: A health led response to drug &

website** and the National Drugs Rehabilitation Framework and National
Protocols and Assessment Guidelines.
* Have experience of high quality inter-agency work, involving
community, voluntary and statutory agencies.
* Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills,

functions of the post.
* He/she must be personally motivated and have the ability to work
on their own initiative
TENURE: This appointment is a full time permanent position (subject to
funding). 6-month probationary period will apply.
